You would not believe how many times I have tried to write this email!
When I really value something, I want to make sure I can speak about it in a way that conveys the value.
Today it’s the Full Moon in Gate 20, In The Now. (These pictures are of the moon this morning on my walk.) My Conscious Moon is in Gate 20. I love and value this energy. And today, now, all of us have the opportunity to explore and expand this In The Now energy at a new level.
So today I am (finally) going to speak about Relational Presence.
Relational Presence is the practice of being of being present to yourself with another.
“It is one thing to be In The Now with yourself, and quite another to do it in the presence of Another.”
When we marry Human Design and Relational Presence, something magical and miraculous happens.
“Human Design is the turn to our Inner Authority. Relational Presence is a path to practice and honor that turn. Wow.”
When we step into being present to ourselves and present to the person we’re with as we look at a chart…or consider our Design… Worlds open. Relational Presence is foundational to all the work we do in the Human Design Trainings. You could say it is one of the key elements that makes our training different from other Human Design Trainings. In the field of Human Design and from a place of Relational Presence, we create a space together to explore what reveals itself in the here-and-now.
So what exactly is Relational Presence?
When I explain it, you’re most likely not going to get it…. You have to DO IT, to EXPERIENCE IT, to understand the power and potency. None-the-less, here is a first go:
- First off, when we’re practicing Relational Presence, everyone gets equal time and attention.
- We hold a place of stillness for each other.
- We give our full attention to the person whose turn it is.
- We do this by being continuously available to that person with our soft, peripheral gaze.
Most of the time we are focusing our eyes trying to give or get something. We are actually contracting our eye muscles, which creates a barrier to receiving.
In Relational Presence, we are open to receiving ourselves and the people we are with.
Human Design is about Awareness.
Awareness is about Presence.
When I am Present, I am Aware.
I am Aware of how I experience this moment.
Now is the only moment that exists.
What am I Aware of, now?
Relational Presence is about Presence and Connection.
By being available for Connection with someone else.
I also become more available for my deep self.
My inner truth is being listened to
in this boundless space of awareness.
A little history…
Relational Presence was born out of Lee Glickstein’s Speaking Circles. In 2004 I did the Speaking Circle training in Canada with Lee and Doreen Downing. It was a game changer. These circles offered a refreshing level of authenticity, and a creative opportunity to show up in front of people. Strangers. An auto accident in 2006 left me with a concussion, and paused my enthusiasm and capacity to lead Speaking Circles.
Three years ago I attended a Relational Presence Conference for Certified Speaking Circle Facilitators’. It was another dive into the waters of authenticity and being present in a group setting. One of the presenters at that conference was Jennet Burghard.
Jennet is an executive coach from the Netherlands who, with Koos Wolken was instrumental in creating a Relational Presence community and facilitator training in Europe. I loved hearing how Jennet worked with clients and teams using Relational Presence. I loved being in the ocean of her deep presence.
She was interested in the presentation I did on Human Design at the conference. I gave her a Human Design Session. She took the 12-week Foundations of Human Design Certification Training, then went on to take the year-long Advanced Certification Training.
This past year she has been a mentor and a coach for the Advanced Certification Training, helping me to deepen the course and tweak its structure. She has helped us establish Presence as a foundational piece for all of our programs. And…she leads a bi weekly Relational Presence group that is available to all students.
This Past September…
I again attended the yearly Relational Presence Conference for certified Speaking Circle Facilitators.
Once more, Jennet presented. Even though we work together weekly, I heard her words at a new level.
Her simple instructions included:
- Stop performing and start connecting.
- Stop trying to be good, be yourself.
- Bring people into a state where they can bond.
- Open your gaze (peripheral vision).
- Open the space to be here.
- Breathe out.
- Focus on one set of eyes at a time.
- Each person gets the same amount of time.
As Michelle Boulé, a transformational coach, dancer, and healer, as well as a student in the Human Design Certification Training for Professionals says:
“Presence changes everything. Presence in relationship changes everything exponentially.”
In our trainings we incorporate Human Design Essential Oils as a way to connect with aspects of our charts. Recently, Jennet asked if there was an essential oil for Relational Presence. I spoke to Greg Toews, founder of Plant Prana, developer of the Human Design Essential Oils, and our alchemical sage on all things relating to essential oils. He graciously offered to create a blend that would call people into Relational Presence. Below is a picture of the oil, and Jennet, in full joy, as she inhales the Relational Presence oil!
Relational Presence Essential Oil Ingredients: Wormwood, Sweet Annie, Artemisia, Mugwort, Absinthium, Lantana, Tarragon, Armoise, Davana, Patchouli, Dark Patchouli, Cistus Supreme

I’m considering doing an Introduction to Relational Presence and Human Design – if enough people are interested. Reply to this email and put YES in the subject line if you’d like to attend.
Blessings as you open to the moment and receive more of who you are, and more of who the people you’re with are!
be well,
Robin
